Services' Role in the New Electricity Market |
 |
In
the new electricity market, SP Services Ltd will take on the role
of the Market Support Service Licensee, providing regulated services
such as retail settlement, meter reading and meter data management,
consumer registration and transfer processing for all contestable
consumers. It also provides services such as billing, payment collection
of transmission service charges on behalf of SP PowerAssets Ltd.

In addition, SP Services Ltd will also provide indirect access to
the spot market by retailers or by contestable consumers who have
not signed up with retailers. It will also provide regulated supply
services to non-contestable consumers until full opening of the
retail market.

SP
Services Ltd's customers enjoy the convenience of opening and closing
of their accounts for utilities at the same place and time. They
can make their applications for utilities through the fax, mail,
telephone or the Internet. Apart from the opening and closing of
utility accounts, services provided by the company include reading
of meters, issuing of bills and collection of payments. Customers
receive an integrated monthly bill, which reflects their usage of
each utility. In addition, SP Services Ltd also acts as an agent
for the Public Utilities Board for the collection of water-borne
and sanitary appliances fees, and for other service providers/government
departments in the collection of refuse removal fees, water conservation
tax, etc.

Services Ltd operates the Electricity Efficiency Centre where customers
can obtain information on the efficient use of electricity. At the
Centre, customers can check the power consumption of different types
of electrical appliances and get useful hints on how to use electricity
wisely through interactive exhibits and video shows. Aimed at educating
the younger generation on the need to use electricity efficiently,
the Centre also conducts classes on electricity efficiency for school
children through videos shows, interactive exhibits, quizzes and
printed materials.
